Web browsers are applications that run on computers used for searching, finding, and viewing text documents, sounds, animations and other multimedia resources on the web. Web sites should be designed so that documents and plug-ins work using common browsers.
Search Engines

Chapter 12 briefly explains that search engines are programs used for the retrieval of data, files, or documents often times from the internet. Think of search engines as an infinite library.
But, instead of searching for hours or days for the material you need, information retrieval takes several minutes. There are many search engines one can choose from and is often times a personal preference.
Web Page Makers and Site Builders
HTML editors and web page-making applications are shortcuts to delivering your multimedia on the web. These applications allow you to add text, images, photos, animation, and more onto web pages. It is still important to have some basic knowledge of HTML.
Review the following document for more information on how plug-ins take browsers to the next level with text, images, sound, animation, video, and presentations.
Open a web browser. Locate the "plug-in" preferences panel within the toolbar. (Note: this option varies among browsers and operating systems, and may not be labeled and/or available for some.) List at least three (3) plug-ins you currently have. Then research at three (3) plug-ins you can add that would be useful in a workplace or educational setting.
